An early morning accident left the driver of a car hospitalized. The accident occurred around 4:00am on Highway 183 when the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a power line pole.

The crash caused the pole to break and fall on the car, trapping the driver. He could not be rescued until the power was turned off. The man was taken to the hospital with severe injuries. Police are still investigating the accident, but alcohol may have been a factor.

Since 2004, there have been at least 16 fatal accidents along a 20 mile stretch of TX 123. Many of these accidents may have been avoided if turn lanes had been available.
