National Safe Kids Week is from April 26 to May 4 this year. This week promotes safety for children across the country. As such, common dangers to children are brought into the spotlight in order to better avoid them.
The number 6 leading cause of death in children under 14 is bicycle accidents. In order to avoid these tragic accidents, protective gear should be used every time a child gets on a bike.

A Round Rock teen died in a rollover crash last week. The rollover occurred on Thursday along I-35 near US 290. An SUV swerved to miss a collision and was hit by a semi truck, causing the SUV to roll.
At the time of the crash, there were five teens in the SUV. One of them was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to the hospital. The other four suffered serious injuries.

Bicycles are everywhere in Austin. Because they are so common, it is important that everyone share the road to avoid injury. Often, there are occassions that increase the number of cyclists on the road.
This week is one of those times. Art Week has come to Austin and will last through the weekend. As such, there will likely be bike tours throughout the downtown area. Not sharing the road can lead to terrible injuries to bikers.

A rollover accident occurred on Sunday evening in South Austin. Around 6pm, a vehicle southbound vehicle on the I-35 frontage road went through the grassy median and rolled over several times before coming to a stop in the southbound lanes of I-35.
In the accident, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the car were taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. No other vehicles were involved.

On March 13, a bicyclist was riding near 7th and Pleasant Valley when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. The collision occurred around 11:30pm, and the driver fled the scene afterward.
The bicyclist had a concussion, a broken collar bone and road rash, but survived the crash. He had no memory of the crash when police found and woke him on the side of the road.

On Monday night an accident occurred in Travis County. The accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of RM 2222 when a semi truck jackknifed while coming down Tumbleweed Hill. The truck rolled over.
The crash killed the driver instantly. The road was also torn up and the eastbound lanes were closed down. Fortunately, this did not cause any more crashes or injuries.

Early Monday morning, a semi truck was involved in an accident with a pedestrian. The accident occurred along I-35 near 51st St around 2am. Witnesses informed the police just after the crash.
The pedestrian was killed instantly in the collision. Police beleive that the man may have been trying to cross the interstate when the accident occurred. They are still investigating.

A fire broke out at Elite Dentistry on Wednesday morning. The equipment fire occurred in the dental treatment area where a dentist and two other employees happened to be.
One dental technician was critically injured when her scrubs caught fire. She was burned over more than 20% of her body. The other two suffered minor burns and all three were taken to University Medical Center.
