A Central Texas police officer was injured when a speeding vehicle he was chasing caused him to strike a parked pick-up truck at approximately 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The officer was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco via ambulance. Neither the officer's name nor the degree of his injuries have been released to the public yet. Authorities say that the injured officer was in pursuit of the speeding car when another vehicle pulled out in front of him, causing him to swerve to avoid a collision. Instead, the patrol car struck the parked truck.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Texas Avenue and Pearl Street in Mart, Texas. The chase occurred along State Highway 164 when the officer was trying to stop a vehicle that was traveling 17 miles per hour over the speed limit. The speeder got away and no traffic citations have been issued. Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating the incident.
