On August 13th, the Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of 228 million eggs from three Wright County egg farms in Iowa. Then, last Friday the recall expanded to include all five Wright County egg farms and 360 million eggs. Now, the recall has expanded to include over 550 million eggs from all Wright County farms and Hillandale Farms after investigators realized the two farms use the same chicken and feed.
The initial recalls came after several cases of salmonella food poisoning in connection with the eggs and epidemiologic evidence of salmonella bacteria at the farms.
The recalled eggs were distributed from Wright County and Hillandale farms on May 16th. There have been 1,200 reported cases of salmonella food poisoning across the country. Cases of food poisoning have been clustered in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin.
