Tuesday, a recall was issued for 1 million 28-tablet birth control packages manufactured by Pfizer. According to the pharmaceutical company, a packaging error caused some of their oral contraceptive packages to have the incorrect numbers of active pills and sugar pills.

The recall affects Pfizer’s Lo/Ovral-28 and generic Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradoil birth control pills. The packages are supposed to have 21 active hormone pills and 7 sugar pills, which need to be taken in order and at the same time every day in order to be the most effective at preventing pregnancy.

A statement from Pfizer reads, “As a result of this packaging error, the daily regimen for these oral contraceptives may be incorrect and could leave women without adequate contraception, and at risk for unintended pregnancy. These packaging defects do not pose any immediate health risks.”

The pills were distributed nationwide. The Food and Drug Administration advises patients taking the recalled brands of Pfizer oral contraceptives to contact their doctor and start using other types of contraception immediately.

Last week, a semi-truck crashed into an Academy Independent School District school bus, leaving 29 children and 3 adults injured. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred on Tuesday at around 7:30 a.m. as the bus was on its way to the first of its 3 stops.

38 children were riding on the bus at the time the accident. Police believe that the truck’s driver drove through a stop sign without stopping before crashing into the bus. The collision happened outside of Temple on Farm-to-Market Road 93.

The driver of the school bus was unconscious after the accident. A witness who stopped to help said the children were all alone, several with cuts and injuries. Emergency crews arrived at the scene of the accident and took 29 children and 3 adults to the hospital.

26 of the children were discharged after receiving treatment for minor injuries, and 3 remained in the hospital with more serious injuries, 1 listed as being in critical condition. The bus driver was also listed as being in critical condition at the hospital.

If you or someone you love has been injured in an accident caused by a semi-truck, contact the Austin trucking/18-wheeler accident lawyers of the Law Offices of Vic Feazell, P.C. at 877-948-4842 to learn more about how we can help you.

54 people are injured, four critically, in a multi-car pile up that occurred early this morning near Port Arthur on Texas 73.

Many passengers had to be life-flighted to nearby hospitals. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department says dense fog and marsh fires that have been burning for several days had dropped visibility to nearly zero. Many drivers, however, continued to drive at least 70 mph.

Two cars reportedly caught on fire but nobody was killed in the extensive car accident. Troopers have issued several citations to drivers for speeding. The accident, which was reported just after 5:30 am, kept traffic at a standstill for nearly five hours.

If you have been injured by a reckless driver, contact the Austin reckless driving lawyers of the Law Offices of Vic Feazell, P.C., at 877-948-4842 for a free legal consultation.

Wal-Mart has pulled Enfamil Newborn, a powdered baby formula, from more than 3,000 of its stores after rising concerns of a possible contamination following the death of a 10 day old infant caused by a bacterial infection days after being given the formula.

The company’s manufacturer, Mead Johnson Nutrition, claims the shipment of formula had tested negative for the bacterium before it was shipped to stores. Wal-Mart has pulled the product as a precaution and there is not a federal recall in place at this time.

Currently, there is no proof that the formula caused the infant’s death. The family of the little boy took him to the hospital after he was displaying signs of a stomach ache and lethargy. Hospital tests revealed he had a rare bacterial infection and died days later after being taken off life support.

A wrongful death lawsuit is being sought by the grieving parents of a 17-year-old girl who passed away 10 days after a standard wisdom tooth surgery.

Last March, during the outpatient surgery the teen’s heart rate and blood oxygen levels aggressively dropped. The oral surgeon as well as the anesthesiologist who were both monitoring her during the surgery did not attempt anything to increase her heart rate.

After the surgery was finished, the girl, an only child, began experiencing harsh side effects directly related to the hypoxia she suffered from while anesthetized. She slipped into a coma and succumbed to the complications in early April.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time.

Yesterday morning, a 41-year old woman working for an advertising firm in New York City was killed in a tragic elevator accident. Last year, there were 53 elevator accidents in the city, 3 of which were fatal.

According to New York City officials, the woman was stepping onto the elevator at around 10 a.m., when it suddenly started moving up, with the doors still open. The elevator dragged the woman up until she was stuck between it and the wall between the first and second floors. Officials pronounced the woman dead at the scene of the accident.

Two passengers were already in the elevator when the woman attempted to step inside. Both were taken to the hospital for an evaluation of psychological trauma.

While investigators are currently unsure of what caused the elevator to malfunction, investigations revealed that the building where the accident occurred has received 14 elevator regulation violations in the past. 2 of the violations were issued last year.
