Austin Quadriplegia Lawyer
Sometimes, a terrible incident such as a car wreck or physical assault may cause a spinal cord injury in the victim. When the injury is severe enough, that person may experience paralysis as a result. If the injured party sustains a spinal cord injury high enough up the back, he or she may experience the loss of voluntary movement of all four limbs. This tragic condition is known as quadriplegia, and victims are permanently disabled and will need assistance for the rest of their lives.
If you or someone you love has been injured by another party’s negligence and has now experienced full-body paralysis, or quadriplegia, as a result, then you may have a legal right to damages. Contact Austin quadriplegia lawyer Vic Feazell today at 512-372-8100 to learn more about your legal options.
What is Quadriplegia?
Quadriplegia injuries arise when an individual sustains a serious injury to the spinal cord above what is known as the C-4 level. The term C-4 refers to the fourth vertebrae beneath the skull. Damage to the spinal cord this high up the back will prevent the victim from voluntarily controlling any body part beneath that height, including all four limbs, the diaphragm, the bladder, and in some cases, the heart. Those who have suffered such a paralyzing injury will require outside care for the rest of their lives in order to survive.
Common Quadriplegia Causes
There are a number of causes of quadriplegia. While this form of paralysis can be caused by diseases such as polio and transverse myelitis, it can also be trauma-induced. Incidental causes of quadriplegia include the following:
- Automobile accidents
- Gunshot wounds
- Falling from a great height
- Assault
- Motorcycle accidents
- Bicycle accidents
- Construction accidents
- Sports-related accidents
